Frequently Asked Questions

What is a natal Moon phase?

It is where the Moon stood in the new-to-full cycle at your birth, computed from the longitude difference between Sun and Moon. Each phase is associated with a distinct temperament theme.

How many Moon phases are there?

Eight in the astrological tradition: new, crescent, first quarter, gibbous, full, disseminating, last quarter and balsamic. Each spans 45 degrees of the Sun–Moon angle.

Is the phase different from my Moon sign?

Yes. The Moon sign describes the language of your emotional needs; the phase describes your position in the cycle. Two people with the same Moon sign can carry very different rhythms in different phases.

What if my phase is on a boundary?

The tool computes the Sun–Moon angle to the arc minute, so boundaries are exact; for borderline charts it is common practice to read both adjacent phase themes together.
